Research Activities

Our team at the WHO CCRRI (VIDRL, Peter Doherty Institute, Melbourne) performs research on influenza virus antivirals. My work utilises the ferret influenza challenge model to study novel antiviral resistant viruses, and potential antiviral drugs/drug combinations, ultimately to research the most effective antiviral treatment methods of human influenza.

Techniques/Expertise

Cell culture assays, primary tissue isolation and culture, virus propagation, plaque assay, virus titration, microscopy, flow-cytometry, qPCR, NGS (Illumina -iSeq), pyrosequencing. Ferret model - handling, inoculation, nasal lavage, tissue harvesting.

Disease Models

In vitro - immortalised cells, air-liquid interfaces, human tissue cultures
In vivo - mice and ferret models
